East Africa’s Best Safari Destinations for Wildlife and Scenery

Some of the most celebrated safari destinations in the world are in East Africa, famous for the variety of their wildlife and the beauty of their landscapes. For travellers looking for a genuine African adventure, they are hard to beat.

Kenya’s Maasai Mara is known for its open savannah and plentiful wildlife, including lions, elephants and cheetahs. It is also the stage for the annual Great Migration, one of the most dramatic events in the natural world. Not far away, Amboseli National Park has superb views of Mount Kilimanjaro and large herds of elephants that roam freely.

Across the border in Tanzania, Serengeti National Park is an enormous ecosystem that is full of wildlife all year. Its endless plains make for excellent game viewing, and the Ngorongoro Crater offers a safari unlike any other, set inside a collapsed volcanic caldera rich in animal life.

Uganda and Rwanda are famous for gorilla trekking in lush mountain forest. They offer a rare chance to watch endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, an encounter that many people find deeply moving.

Every East African destination has something of its own, from dramatic scenery to time spent with local communities. Travelling with experienced guides keeps you safe and brings the meaningful connections and wildlife encounters that are the real spirit of a safari.
